Research Summary
I am interested in the mechanisms underlying molecular evolution. I am currently working on a project on enhancer evolution using the arthropod Parhyale hawaiesis. I am looking for enhancers of the Parhyale snail (Ph-snail) gene by making constructs with various lengths of the sequence 5’ of Ph-snail attached to a fluorescent report. After these constructs have been made, I will test them by injecting them into Parhyale embryos and by subsequently looking for distinct expression patterns. After I find the enhancers of this gene, I will compare their sequence and position to the enhancers of the snail gene from the arthropod Drosophilamelanogaster to investigate enhancer evolution. I am planning on attending graduate school next fall in genetics or a related field.
