RESEARCH SUMMARY
I am working with a postdoc in the lab, Paul Liu, and am interested in the evolution of segmentation in the insects. Our approach is to examine the expression and function of segmentation gene homologs in the short germband insect Oncopeltus fasciatus. I have so far cloned fragments of several of the segmentation genes and will soon be performing in situ hybridization to examine how these genes are expressed and will be performing RNAi in order to determine their function during embryogenesis. Future plans include pursuing a graduate degree in Public Health in epidemiology and attending medical school.
