Research Summary

I am interested in signaling between the ectoderm and the mesoderm during segmentation in arthropods. To learn more about the signaling pathways involved in this process, I am currently treating the arthropod Parhyale hawaiensis with drugs that inhibit specific pathways. The TGF-B and FGF pathways were chosen because they are important for mesodermal-ectodermal interactions in the highly derived arthropod Drosophila melanogaster. My ultimate goal is to characterize the phenotypes from the disruption of the TGF-B and FGF pathways in Parhyale, both morphologically and molecularly.
