Research Summary
I am interested in the the process of segmentation in Parhyale. I am characterizing transgenic animals capable of over- and under-expressing segmentation genes in the hopes of understanding what role these genes have during germband elongation in Parhyale. I have been focusing on an ortholog of even-skipped that has been found to be expressed in the posterior germband and may have a role in regulating germband divisions. I also study the evolution of wing patterning in the butterfly species Junonia coenia. I am currently analyzing the expression of orthologs of Drosophila wing patterning genes in imaginal wing discs to understand the evolution of vein specification and patterning.
