We are a research laboratory at the University of California at Berkeley. Nipam H. Patel, the principal investigator of our group, has built a lab interested in the Evolution of Development, primarily in arthropods. Patel Lab's research can be divided into five main categories:

1. the role of homeotic (Hox) genes in the evolution of body morphology
2. the evolution of segmentation mechanisms during early development
3. the evolution of the central nervous system of arthropods
4. the analysis of regulatory changes in genes during evolution
5. the development of misexpression systems to manipulate organisms not amenable to standard genetic approaches.

We hope that you find these web pages useful for learning more about the research interests of the people in the lab.
